Conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding on an Aircraft Leasing Agreement between Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance and Vietjet

Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance Company Limited ( “Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance”) signed a “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the conclusion of an aircraft leasing agreement and exploration of opportunities of providing financing on additional aircrafts” in the future with VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company, a Vietnamese aircraft company (head office in Ho Chi Minh City;  President and CEO: Mrs. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, hereinafter, “Vietjet”) at the office of Prime Minister on September 15, in addition to the aircraft leasing agreement that had been already executed with the Vietjet.

This conclusion of the MOU was made with Vietjet on the sidelines of visit to Japan of  H.E. Dr. Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Going forward, Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance will, through its group company, Jackson Square Aviation Ireland Limited, plow ahead with a study of leasing of aircrafts and opportunities of financing in a mutual manner with Vietjet.

Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance, which opened its representative office in Vietnam in 2008 as the first Japanese leasing company and having business bases in Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia through the ASEAN region, will make a contribution to the development and expansion of Vietnam’s aircraft industry whose continuous growth is expected, by providing Vietjet with high-quality solutions appropriate for its business environment in addition to the support given in the past to Japanese-affiliated customers’ advance into Vietnam market.

Vietjet is the first airline in Vietnam to operate as a new-age airline. It provides not only transport services but also uses the latest e-commerce technologies to offer various products and services for consumers. The airline also recently won IOSA Certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) after just over three years of operations.

Currently, the airline boasts a fleet of 27 aircraft, including A320s and A321s, and operates 180 flights each day. It has already opened 33 routes in Vietnam and across the region to international destinations such as Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, China and Myanmar. It has carried more than 15 million passengers to date.

Looking ahead, the airline plans to continuously expand its network across the region. To prepare for this plan, Vietjet has signed agreements with the world’s leading aircraft-manufacturers to purchase more brand-new and modern aircraft.
